Training and Education

CHC is proud of its ability to deliver value-for-money training across the technologies and engineering specialties associated with the Electricity Supply Industry.

Courses range from broad introductory level training to detailed and specific expert training. All are focused to the client’s identified need. In shaping such courses, each CHC member is able to draw on the skills and experience developed over a long professional career to provide industry leading training.

Course units are available “off the shelf” or a course can be developed by CHC to address a specific client need. Even the off-the-shelf courses are able to be shaped by the CHC team (in concert with the client’s training team) to align the course content to the client’s requirements.

Such tailored courses developed by CHC have included:

·         Graduate Training Modules giving a broad foundation level understanding to new appointees to the ESI.

·         Introductory Technical Courses for Non-Engineering Professionals in the Electricity Supply Industry

·         Short course or individual lectures to address a technology or knowledge gap

Typical courses developed and presented by CHC include:

POWER SYSTEM DYNAMICS

This course provides a comprehensive overview of power system stability and control problems. This includes the basic concepts, physical aspects of the phenomena, methods of analysis, examples of incidents of system instability, challenges to the secure operation of present-day power systems, and comprehensive approach to enhancing system security.

The course is generally held over four days but can be tailored to individual needs provided sufficient number of attendees is guaranteed.

The course in presented by internationally recognized Canadian expert in this area: Dr Prabha S Kundur.

INTRODUCTION TO HIGH VOLTAGE SUBSTATIONS

A one to three day “Introduction to High Voltage Substations” syllabus has recently been developed by CHC. This course has a principal focus on extra high voltage substations and their components. It covers all aspects of high voltage substations from planning and design/specification to a review of the major components. It completes with a discussion of the project management and commissioning issues associated with the establishment of a modern HV Substation.

CHC is able to shape this course for presentation “in-house” or at a more general level.
