Steven Jones has over 35 years’ professional experience working in the electricity supply industry, specialising in the areas of project delivery, network design, high voltage equipment, asset management and implemention of new strategies.
From 2011 to 2015 he was responsible for the delivery of all major capital projects at TransGrid including substations, transmission lines, cables, control and protection systems, and telecommunications. The annual budget expenditure exceeded $350 million.
Prior to 2011, Steven was Manager/Design and Construct Projects, in which role he established this form of project delivery at TransGrid. He has also been Manager/Design at TransGrid, responsible for design standards and the delivery of all primary and secondary system designs, and was also formerly responsible for the specification and procurement of all high voltage equipment at TransGrid.
Before formation of TransGrid, he was an asset condition specialist with Pacific Power. He was also the high voltage equipment and commissioning consultant for Pacific Power International's Vietnam 500kV interconnection project.
Some of the major projects Steve has been involved as Manager/Projects included the Western Sydney Supply complex, rebuilding of Beaconsfield GIS substation, the Gullen Range Windfarm connection, Orange North substation, Tomago to Stroud transmission line and the rebuilding of several major substations.
As Manager/Design and Construct Projects he was involved with the Western 500kV network development, Williamsdale substation and transmission line, Macarthur substation, Glen Innes substation and Wagga North substation.
Manager/Design major projects included the Sydney CBD MetroGrid project, Queensland – NSW Interconnection and the TransGrid Fibre Optic network.
Steven held the most senior technical role in CIGRE in Australia from 2010 to 2015, covering the full spectrum of technical issues in the power industry. From 2001 to 2008, he was the nominated high voltage equipment representative for Australia and New Zealand.
Steven has authored more than 20 international papers on major projects, substation design, high voltage equipment and condition based systems.
Steve’s formal qualification are in electrical engineering and business management. He is a Chartered Professional Engineer on the National Engineering Register.
