John Hoore held senior positions in the Electricity Commission of NSW, Pacific Power and TransGrid including those of Design Manager and Manager/Generation Options Planning.
He is a foundation Director of CHC Associates Pty Ltd. He has had contract assignments associated with the development of data management systems, preparation of feasibility studies for the augmentation of the NSW transmission network and project manager for a major 500 kV transmission project in China.
During his 40 years’ experience in the electricity supply industry, Mr Hoore has has responsibilities covering the areas of:
- Planning, design and project management of transmission network infrastructure;
- Commercialisation of publicly owned telecommunications assets;
- Technologies for transmission infrastructure;
- Transmission network design, construction, maintenance and operations – involving transmission lines and substations up to 500 kV.
Highlights include the following:
- Board member of the Cooperative Research Centre into Photonics;
- Membership of a number CIGRE Technical Panels;
- Management of a team of professional staff responsible for developing options for new generation capacity for the State. This work involved
- Coal exploration;
- Water resource management;
- Preparation of environmental impact statements;
- Development of community involvement programs;
- Management of a team of engineers and technical staff responsible for the design and specification of transmission infrastructure comprising
- Transmission lines
- High voltage cables
- Telecommunications
- High voltage protection
- Substation controls
- Preparation feasibility studies for many transmission projects including
- Reinforcement of supply to the Sydney CBD;
- Augmentation of power station switchyards;
- Rebuilding of 132 and 330 kV substations;
- Construction of Williamsdale and Macarthur substations.
- Development of a database for estimating the cost of building transmission infrastructure;
- Team Leader of an International Consulting team engaged to assist in the construction of a 500 kV transmission project in China which included an efficiency review of the Shenyang Power Supply Company;
- Responsible for the preparation of specifications for substations in Thailand, Vietnam and China.
